imitation of a wedding...

Fashion Week is in Milan right now, but I'm still back in New York with Imitation of Christ. Their collection is one of my favorites so far. It is nostalgic, feminine and romantic(a few of my favorite things). The setting is a wedding and we're all invited. The 20's silhouette is humble and unassuming, with loose and easy pieces that add a sweetness to the delicate laces and patterns...like its 1926 and an earnest girl is still growing into her hand-me-down day-dress.

An Indian friend of mine let me know that yesterday was India's Independence Day. I had to admit, I didn't know much about their Independence Day. Celebrated every year on August 15 since 1947, they raise the Indian flag and the Prime Minister gives a speech every year.You can read about it here. So, Happy Birthday, India!

the elephant has arrived...

Welcome to Painted Elephant=) I am an artist and designer and a bit of an Asia-file. My main form of media is vintage Indian Sarees and transforming them into accessories and clothing. Using decades old sarees, everything I make is one of a kind. I treasure the specialness this creates for all my pieces. They seem fleeting. And while they came to me with their own history, I've entered their story and there will be others after me.
